Handmade Exposed Spine Art Journal - Midnight Owls

Plum-black cotton fabric covers printed with owls in coral, pink, and peach perched on bare branches under a starry sky. Look closely and you’ll spot one in a vampire cape and another taking his tea. The spine is hand-sewn with coral thread in a French link stitch and strung with stone, multicolored glass, black, and antique bronze metal beads, with black cotton herringbone ribbon tucked behind. The owl fabric continues onto the hinges along the spine. Inside, you’ll find blush end papers swirled with peach and coral like poured paint.

This Book Is Great For: Pen, pencil, charcoal, markers, ink, gouache, acrylic, and light watercolor washes all work well here. You can also press herbs and flowers in it, or use it as a grimoire to track your potionmaxxing. The paper has enough weight and tooth to handle wet media, so a little water won’t hurt it. If you go heavy with the water, expect some gentle waving as it dries.
